A Day at Posh Pets

A day at our grooming shop is not a traumatic event for your pet. He or she will be getting plenty of attention and TLC. We groom a number of pets per day and though we wish we could take one at a time through the grooming process, we can neither efficiently nor economically operate in this manner.

The following will explain why each pet receives personal attention by each step taken during his or her groom

Step #1

All pets are readied for their bath with initial clipping done and removal of any excess hair. Remaining hair is completely detangled with a gentle brushing, followed by a fine-toothed combing. This aids in obtaining a thorough cleansing in the bath as well as giving the shampoo no place to hide during the final rinse. The nails are clipped at this time and the ears are cleared of excess hair.

Step #2

The bath consist of a thorough shampooing with a mild shampoo, conditioner if needed, and a complete rinse. Unless otherwise specified, the anal sacs are cleared at this time.

Step #3

After the bath, all pets are dried and brushed so that the hair is left tangle free. (Keeping your pet well brushed and combed between grooming visits makes for a more enjoyable time for all concerned). We feel that the animals respond better to being groomed when they are not rushed and can relax between steps. This establishes desirable grooming habits.

Step #4

Now that the time-consuming steps are over, we can relax and enjoy the finish clipping. Most bodywork is with the clippers and generally the legs, head, and tail are hand scissor. Some styles, however, require total hand scissoring. This, of course, takes much more time and costs a bit extra. This final step can take anywhere from 45–90 minutes (or more), depending on the size of the pet, style or clip, and cooperation of the pet.
